Who buys these leads

  • Dispatchers. Box-truck and cargo-van dispatch is its own niche: different loads, load boards and rates than semis. How to find carriers to dispatch.
  • Insurance agents. Quote commercial auto and cargo for straight trucks and vans the week the carrier gets authority.
  • Factoring. A box truck hauling for brokers waits on its invoices like a semi does.

Who can skip them

  • Drug & alcohol consortiums. DOT testing covers drivers who need a CDL (49 CFR Part 382). Pick CDL fleets instead.
  • IFTA and IRP services. Both start above 26,000 lbs (or at three axles), so most no-CDL fleets never file.
  • ELD vendors, partly. Box trucks over 10,000 lbs generally need an ELD; cargo vans under 10,001 lbs don’t. CDL fleets are the surest buyers.

How we tell a box truck from a semi

Every carrier reports its driver counts to FMCSA on its MCS-150 registration, including how many drivers hold a CDL. A carrier that lists drivers but zero CDL drivers runs vehicles that don’t need one: straight trucks up to 26,000 lbs, cargo and sprinter vans, and pickups that stay under the CDL limit. A carrier with at least one CDL driver is a CDL fleet. Carriers that haven’t reported a CDL count yet are left out of both, and the counts are self-reported, so treat the split as a strong filter rather than a guarantee.
